History

L-3 Valmarine AS today is commonly known for their well reputed Integrated Ship Automation and Navigation Systems delivered to commercial and naval vessels world-wide. Starting in 1979, with more than 700 systems delivered, L-3 Valmarine is a market leader in the cruise vessel market. Other reference applications are large passenger ferries, high speed craft, offshore vessels, chemical- and product tankers, Ro-Ro vessels, FPSO´s and variety of different naval ships.

 

Our history from 1979 up till today;

1979

Valmet Automation Oy, Finland established Valmet Process Control AS, Norway supplying automation systems to the Norwegian process industry.

1982

The company name was changed to Valmet Automation AS.

1983

Valmet Automation AS, Norway delivered the first integrated ship automation system, Damatic Classic.

1990

Valmet Automation Oy, Finland sold 60% of it´s ownership in Valmet Automation AS, Norway to Lyngsø Marine Denmark. The company was thereafter renamed to Lyngsø-Valmet Marine Automation AS.

1994

Valmet Automation Oy, Finland sold the remaining 40% of it´s shares to Lyngsø Marine Denmark. Lyngsø-Valmet Marine Automation AS now renamed to Lyngsø Marine AS. This year Lyngsø Marine Denmark and Lyngsø Marine AS, Norway was acquired by STN Atlas GmbH, Germany.

1997

The management of Lyngsø Marine AS, Norway made a management buy-out from Lyngsø Marine Denmark. Company renamed to Valmarine AS and became a 100% Norwegian owned company.

2001

Valmarine AS was acquired by CAE Inc. Canada and renamed to CAE Valmarine AS.

2003 

CAE Valmarine AS acquired the company Odim Hitec Marine Automation AS and renamed this to CAE Navigation AS, thus extending its product scope to also include delivery of Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS) to naval and commercial vessel markets world-wide.

2005

The Marine Division of CAE Inc. was sold to the L-3 Corporation based in New York. CAE Valmarine AS changed name to      L-3 Communications Valmarine AS and CAE Navigation AS changed name to L-3 Communications Navigation AS.

2009

L-3 Communications Navigation AS was merged with L-3 Communications Valmarine AS. The same year L-3 Communications Valmarine acquired and merged SAM Electronics Norge AS, previously owned by SAM Electronics GmbH, Germany with main business being sales and service of navigation and communication equipment.

 

L-3 Valmarine AS is a member of the L-3 Marine & Power Systems division who supplies complete Bridge to Propeller solutions. L-3 Valmarine now offers the new VALMATIC Platinum Automation System dedicated to improve ship operations by increased usability, safety and reliability. L-3´s Platinum series of integrated systems for Navigation, Dynamic Positioning and Marine Automation are all based on the same technology platform ensuring seamless integration, leading to consistent and common operational philosophy and alarm handling.
