L-3 Valmarine specializes in the engineering of marine navigational and automation systems. Originally an independent firm by the name of Valmarine, it was bought by L-3 Communications in 2005 and has subsequently gone from strength to strength. Business performance has grown substantially whilst research and development has accelerated into market-defining systems. The most recent version of its integrated automation and navigation system, the Platinum series, epitomizes where the company is today – at the forefront of its market.
Since the launch of the Platinum series of products L-3 Valmarine has, in cooperation with its L-3 partners SAM Electronics in Germany and APSS in Italy, successfully delivered the first fully integrated NACOS Navigation and VALMATIC Automation system to Carnival Cruise Lines newest ship Carnival Breeze. The delivery was an important milestone in the Platinum development program confirming the functionality of the integration concept that is the basis for the Platinum series of products.
In addition to this successful new system launch L-3 Dynamic Positioning & Control Systems (L-3 DP&CS) has announced the release of the latest addition to the Platinum series, adding Dynamic Positioning (DP) to the system's suite of navigation, automation and control applications. The new Platinum DP System was on display for the first time at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, April 30 through May 3. Having the DP available on the same platform as the navigation and automation system has opened up new possibilities for L-3 Valmarine and it's L-3 partners.
So far the Platinum series has given L-3 Valmarine the opportunity to comply with its new strategy by securing new orders within Cruise, Mega yacht and Offshore. The retrofit market has also opened their eyes to this new concept and awarded L-3 Valmarine with several new retrofit contracts.
